Season's End

Thank you to all parents, athletes, and fans that were present for the 2005 Cross-Country Banquet on Wednesday, November 16, 2005. The evening was a great success. What a wonderful way to end a historic season for EHS Cross-Country. Special thanks yous go out to EHS Administration, EHS Cafeteria/Banquet Workers, EHS Custodial Staff, Sally Atwood, Lisa Quick, Cindy Vance, and Jennifer Freese for all of their hard work in making the evening possible. It was a wonderful event! Obviously the night was full of emotion, laughs, tears, smiles, and reflection. Thank you for the memories and the great year. Here is a recap of special awards:

Andy Thomas Award: This is a new award created to thank our true fans of cross-country. This new award includes the following inscription:

Presented to the individual, group, or organization that embodied the spirit of Cross-Country and whose dedication, support, passion, and hard work throughout the season, epitimizes the loyal and true fan of EHS Cross-Country.

The inaugural Andy Thomas Award was presented to Andy Thomas for all of his support to helping out at meets to providing keepsakes for the team. Thank you Andy for all you do and congratulations!

Job Well Done

Congratulations to the girls X-C team on finishing the greatest season in the history of the program. The girls tied for 11th place with 317pts. and earned a 12th place finish on the 6th runner.

Courtney Smith 18:11 (41st), Lia Saunders 18:32 (68th), Liz Speicher 18:36 (77th). Lauren Heidbrink 18:54 (117th), and Kristing Hodge 19:12 (158th) scored for the Tigers

Kaci Smith (19:47) and Laura Bevis (19:56) also ran for the team

Almost all runners achieved a personal record on a very fast day.

Congratulations to all on a wonderful season with more to come in the future.

Thank you to all the parents, boosters, fans, and friends for your support at the state meet and all season long.

New Hotel Accomodations

The boys & girls X-C Teams will now be staying at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Peoria, IL for the state meet. The contact information is listed below and will be sent home with directions with your athlete. It is in the same area as the previous hotel (Best Western Signature Inn) and very near the Spring Hill Suites where we stayed for both the Peoria Woodruff and Peoria High Invitationals.

State Final Parking Fee: Admission fees will be collected at each of the parking lots in or adjacent to Detweiller Park. The fees for Cars=$10.00; Van (extended 15 passenger type)=$15.00; Bus=$25.00. The IHSA encourages spectators to take advantage of this admission price. Obviously it is far more economical to share the ride with others attending this event. The admission price is the same for a car containing four people or only one person. The prices are per vehicle, not the number of people in the vehicle. Schools, coaches and athletes are encouraged to share this information with their fans.

Pets: Individuals are prohibited from bringing any type of pet to the State Final, with the exception of service and seeing-eye dogs.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4th – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5th
I.H.S.A. STATE X-C CHAMPIONSHIPS

FRIDAY
Depart: 9:00a.m. from EHS in Charter. Then proceed to Cracker Barrel for Breakfast.
Arrive: Approximately 1:30p.m. at Detweiller Park. Athletes will set up camp and change into running clothes for the daily workout. Coaches will gather packets and t-shirts. After the workout we will have a snack and head to the hotel to check in and get clean for dinner (TBA).
Meals: After our run we will head to the hotel to check in and clean up and head to dinner somewhere near the hotel (Avanti’s, St. Bread Co., etc…) Athletes should bring a snack to eat on the way up if they wish. A variety of snacks, water, and sports drink will be furnished for the ride up by the team. Money for dinner Friday night and lunch on Saturday afternoon will provided by the team. The hotel has a continental breakfast where we will eat before heading to the course.

Note: Each team will meet as a group after dinner to discuss plans to depart to the course on Saturday. You may relax in each others rooms until lights out (TBA) when you must retire to your own room and go to bed for the evening. Remember the idea of coming up the night before is so you can get good nights sleep in order to race better on Saturday. Have fun but protect your opportunities.

SATURDAY
Wake Up: 7:00-7:30a.m. Breakfast at 8:00a.m.
Departure: Be loaded up and ready to go by 9:30a.m.
Race Schedule: Girls Race: 12:15p.m. Boys Race: 1:15p.m.
Return: Awards (Pending)
What to Bring (You are going for one night, please pack light)
Uniform (singlet, shorts, spikes, jacket, pant, sweatshirt, etc..)
Practice Clothes (shorts, top, running shoes, etc...)
Clothing to go to dinner in and ride home in
Underwear & Socks (Sports bras for the ladies)
Toiletries (toothbrush ,toothpaste, deodorant, etc…)
Extra socks
Money (snacks, t-shirt, etc…)
Snacks (don’t bring a bunch of junk, eat that after the meet or not at all)
Cell phones (no cell phones are to be used after lights out on Friday. Call to check in with parents or significant others before then. Once we get to the course to warm up, put the cell phones away until after your race)
